Unit2 The Olympic Games (必修2)

Reading and Comprehending

一、教材依据

人教版《普通高中课程标准实验教科书》英语Module2 Unit2 The Olympic Games

二、设计思路

本单元的中心话题是“奥运会”——世界上最重要的体育盛会。语言技能和语言知识部分主要是围绕“体育”这一中心话题进行设计的。“阅读”(Reading)部分通过一个虚拟的采访向学生介绍古代奥运会和现代奥运会的异同及奥运会的一些基本情况。随着问题的逐步展开,学生对奥运会的了解也越来越全面。文章的这种设计给学生创设了语言情境,把描述竞技体育这一话题的语言内容变成了生动有趣的对话,让学生有一种身临其近的真实感受。通过前面“热身”(Warming up)、 “口语”(Speaking)和词汇(Vocabulary)的学习和训练,帮助同学们在大脑中形成了一个有关“体育运动”的信息包;学习和复习了一些有关描述体育运动的名词;丰富了他们有关描述体育的语言;增加了同学们相关的体育知识,并以此为诱发,培养了同学们对体育的兴趣。这也就为下一步“阅读”做好了思想准备。本节课主要运用不同的阅读方法,通过Talking about pictures,Asking and answering questions, Filling in forms ,Writing a summary ,Discussion等不同层次不同类型的设题,旨在培养学生捕捉文章细节信息的能力,归纳和推理的能力及其发散思维的能力。

三、教学目标

知识目标

1.Get students to learn the following new words and expressions:

athlete, admit, compete, competitor, Greece, motto, further, rank, gymnastics, prepare, preparation, host, replace, take part in, stand for, as well

2. Let students learn about the basic knowledge on the Olympic Games.

能力目标

1. Develop studentsXXXXX reading ability and let them learn different reading skills.

2. Enable students to learn to talk about the Olympic Games.

1. Arouse students’ great interest in the Olympic Games.

2. Develop students’ sense of cooperative learning.

八、教学过程与方式

Step I Lead-in (引入)

1、 展示五环旗和**_*徽(同时向学生提问):

Questions:

(1). What do the five colors represent in Picture 1?

(2). What do the rings stand for?

(3). Would you like to know more about the Olympic Games?

(4).Can you introduce Picture 2 and Picture3 to the other students?

2、屏幕显示一些奥林匹克运动比赛项目并提出下列问题:

(1). Do you know what sport event each of the following pictures stands for?

(2) Can you tell more sport events in the modern Olympic Games?

设计说明: 这些活动很容易引起学生的兴趣,激发他们学习和探究的热情,并自然地导入下一个活动任务

Step II Pre-reading 读前

1. 让同学们互相交流他们所知道的有关奥运的信息。

2. 屏幕显示下列问题, 进一步讨论举办奥运会的意义和奥运会历史。

(为了培养学生积极参与课堂活动的意识,让同学们进行小组讨论:Work in group of four.)

(1). Which sport events do you like to watch most? Why?

(2). Is it important to win a sports match? Why or why not?

(3). Are the Olympic Games important to our society? Why or why not?

(4). Why do athletes from so many countries want to take part in the Olympic Games?

设计说明: 以上的四个问题是在“热身”、 “口语”所涉及的话题的基础上设计的,目的是为了进一步提高学生对体育运动会的正确认识;引导学生理解奥运会的重要性和奥运会所倡导的体育精神。有利于培养学生的开放性思维能力,引导学生为下一步“阅读”做好准备。

Step III Reading 阅读

Task 1. Fast reading (略读)

Skim the text quickly to get the general idea of the text:

T: Now read the text quickly and try to get the information for the four questions. (屏幕显示下列问题)

(1) .How many kinds of Olympic Games are mentioned in the text? What are they?

(2). When and where were the first modern Olympic Games held?

(3). When and where will the 29th Olympic Games be held?

(4). What is the Olympic motto?

设计说明:通过完成这一阅读任务,目的是让学生捕捉主要信息,了解文章主旨大意。

Task 2. Intensive reading (细读)

Read the text very carefully and learn about the details of the text.

T: Read the text carefully and find out the similarities & differences between Ancient and Modern Olympics. (屏幕显示下列表格)

设计说明:这一任务要求学生找出古代奥运会和现代奥运会各自的特点,旨在培养学生捕捉文章细节信息的能力,这是一种重要的阅读技巧。

Task 3.Listening and summary (总结)

Ask the students to listen to the interview and then summarize the interview by filling in the following blanks. (屏幕显示下列短文)

设计说明:这一部分活动的设计旨在培养学生利用总结、归纳等逻辑手段分析和解决问题。同学们在这个过程中,不断地获得知识或得出结论,从而获得语言运用的能力,为下一步语言知识的输出奠定了基础。

Step IV Post reading

Discussion:(这一部分活动的设计实际上就是语言知识的输出)

Let the students talk about the good effects and bad effects of hosing the Olympic Games .This is a team work and they are demanded to give their report after their discussion. (教师可以进一步发展“读前”部分的话题,用英语组织一次辩论赛。先把班级分成两组,第一组认为举办奥运会利大于弊。他们可以从提高民族声望、弘扬奥运精神、促进经济发展、改善城市建设、增进世界人民友谊等方面来组织论点;第二组认为举办奥运会弊大于利。他们可以从耗资巨大、影响市民生活、牵扯面太大等方面来组织论点。具体活动形式:1、小组讨论,列出要点;2、持相同观点的小组之间交流意见,整理观点;3、辩论采用两大组轮流自由发言的形式,教师主持,控制发言时间;4、辩论结束后,每个学生填写教材中的表格,举办奥运会的正负效果至少各列举三个。) (屏幕显示下列表格)

设计说明:这一活动任务具有很大的开放性,既调动了学生的积极性和自主性,又有利于引导学生进行一次发散性思维,同时也培养了学生辨证地、客观地分析问题的能力。

Step V Homework

1、Serf the Internet or go to the library to get more information about the Olympic Games.

2、Write a short passage about what we can do for the Beijing Olympics?

设计说明:这两个课后作业的设计主要是让学生利用课外阅读和上网查阅资料,扩大自己的视野,获取更多有关奥运的知识,同时了解世界,并根据自己所学的知识,用英语解决现实生活中的问题。

九、教学反思

本节课依据《新课程标准》的精神出发进行教学设计,从运用的角度出发,从培养学生学习技能的目的出发,设计各个环节,。整节课以学生为主体,教师指导学生通过观察体验、探究合作等积极主动的学习方式,操练各种语言技能,在活动中同时培养用英语获取信息、处理信息的能力。本节课以“竞赛”和“讨论”形式激发背景知识、补充背景,为其后的阅读作好词语、结构和心理准备。阅读部分,通过听磁带,略读和抓读等多次阅读活动,学生对文章的主要内容,细节信息及结构都有了较深入的了解,并基本能通过填空复述文章的主要内容。最后的讨论活动也使学生对文章有了进一步的思考和理解。通过多媒体课件制作等激发学生的学习热情,使材料由抽象转化为具体、形象,降低学生的难度,增强学生的参与意识,从而提高课堂效果。但因利用多媒体上课课堂容量大,密度高,部分学生很难与课堂教学保持同步,以后的教学中应该加强课前预习的指导和检查。
