Unit 5 What are the shirts made of?
Section A 1 (1a-1c)
一、Teaching aims:
1. Language goals:
1) New words: chopsticks, coin, fork, blouse, silver, glass, cotton, steel,
2)Target language:
① —This ring looks nice. Is it made of silver?
—Yes, and it was made in Thailand.
② What is it made of ? It’s made of.../ What are they made of ? They are made of...
③ Where was it /were they made ? It was /they were made in...
2. Ability objects:
1)Enable students to talk about what products are made of and where they were made?
2)Learn and master the structure and usage of the passive voice in the present tense.
3.Moral objects:
Know more about the products made in China and be proud of them .
二、Teaching key and difficult points:
1. Teaching key points:
1) Learn to talk about what products are of and where they were made in.
2) Learn and master the structure of the passive voice ( be made of ...)
2. Teaching difficult points:
Learn and master the structure and usage of the passive voice of present tense.
三、Teaching steps
Step 1. Leading-in(about 5 minutes)
Greet the class and duty report as usual.
T: show a picture to students ,what’s it about ?
S1: Double 11.
T: What will people do on that day? And why?
S2: People will buy a lot of things because they are cheaper on that day .
T: Yes, you are so smart .
Step2. Presentation (about 10 minutes)
T:Today main characters are Susan and Anita . They like buying things.Do you know what did they buy last double 11. Ok , I describe you guess.
It’s small and round, usually people will buy them when they get married.
It’s a ring
They are pairs of thin sticks. They are used for putting food in your mouth.
They are chopsticks
And teach the new words: ring, chopsticks,fork... and ask students to read them.
T:What are they made of ?Do you know ?
Show some materials and teach students how to read them.At last, ask students to read them.
Step3. practice ( about 3 minutes)
Have students read the words in the chart in 1a.Then ask them to match the things with the materials in their own.
Do it like this:
A: What is it made of ? B: It’s made of...
A:What are they made of ? B:They are made of...
1. Show some pictures on the big screen. Ask student to make conversations.
e.g.What’s this / are they ? It’s a / they are ...
What’s it / are they made of ? It’s / they are made of ...
Where was it / were they made ? It was/ they were made in Korea.
Step4. Listening (about 10 minutes)
T: Tell Ss they will hear a conversation about some things and materials. Listen and match the products with what they are made of and where they were made.

2. Let one student read the words in the box, Play the recording for the Ss to listen.
3. Ss try to listen and match the things with the material and here they were made.
4. Play the recording again. Let Ss check the facts they hear. Answer other three questions
5. Check the answers
6.Read listening materials and answer questions
Step5. Pair work(about 5 minutes)
1. Read the conversation in the box in 1c.
2. Ss try to made conversations using the information in picture.
e.g. A: Your new shirt looks very nice. Is it made of cotton?
B: No, it isn’t. It’s made of silk.
Let some pairs read out their conversations.
Step 6.Writing(about 4 minutes)
You may have something special in your life.
And think about who gave it to you ?when did you get it ?what is it made of ?Where was it made in?Why do you think its special ?And at last,ask students to share.
Step7.Summary (about 2 minutes)
Step 8.Homework (about 1 minute)
1、copy the new words
2、introduce a special thing ( be made of ,be made in...)
