Students will be able to know how to protect themselves when earthquake happens.

Teaching procedures

Step1: lead-in

Introduce some natural disasters to students.(引起学生的学习兴趣，导入到要讲的话题)

Step2: Fast reading:

1: What does the passage mainly talk about?

2: Divide the passage into three parts and find out the main idea of each part.(通过skimming这一阅读策略，学生能够获取文章大意以及每一段的主题句)

Careful reading

1: Read the first paragraph together and find what happened before the earthquake?

2: Read next two paragraphs and fill in the blanks.

3: Read last part and find what did the soldiers and rescue workers do for the city?（通过细读，学生能够对文章细节做进一步了解并完成相关练习）

Step4: Retelling and Discussion

1: Summary: Retell the text by filling the following blanks.（通过填空，学生对文章做一个总结）

2; Discussion: Suppose there would be an earthquake, what should we do to keep ourselves safe?（小组作业，学生通过讨论，找出更多在地震中保护自己的方法）

Summary

We can’t stop earthquakes, but we can try to rebuild our home.（情感与价值观的培养 ）
