A teaching design for A Student of African Wildlife
I. 教材介绍 (Textbook Introduction):
This unit is mainly talking about women of achievement. Therefore, the purpose of this passage is to introduce a famous woman scientist, Jane Goodall. The arrangement of this passage is to emphasize what kind of person Jane is and what makes her great. There are four paragraphs. The first paragraph represents a day of Jane’s work with the author’s own experience, which is to tell readers Jane’s work is tiring and dirty. The second paragraph tells readers Jane spent years doing the work and what she discovered. The third paragraph tells us Jane’s attitude and feelings about chimps and what she has been doing to help chimps. The last paragraph shows Jane’s achievement and her influence.

1. Ss can understand the meaning some key words and phrases in the specific context of the reading passage, such as : behave, behaviour, bond, nest, observe and so on.
2. Ss can have a general understanding of Jane Goodall.

3. Cultivate ss’ critical thinking ability; improve Ss’ reading ability by using some reading strategies such as predicting, finding topic sentences or key words…
4. Ss can know how to write a composition about a person.
