Module One EuropeReading and Vocabulary㖞

一、教材分析:

本模块介绍了欧洲某些国家的名称、首都、语言、城市和文艺建筑,要求学生进一步了解欧洲情况,学会表达地理位置,最终能以口头和笔头形式并借助照片、通过杂志、报刊等媒介综合介绍中国某一区域。本课是高一英语必修3第1模块 “Europe”的第二课时,是一篇阅读文章“Great European Cities”。本课时通过学习词汇,阅读介绍欧洲著名城市巴黎,巴萨罗某某,弗洛伦撒和雅典,了解其地理位置、文化和艺术特色。学生要通过本节课练习阅读技巧、理解文章大意、学习课文重点短语和句子。?最后的写作能很好地训练学生的总结能力和写作能力。

二、学情分析:

1.经过前面一课时Introduction的学习,学生已经复习和学习了一些国家的名称、首都、语言明称、以及这些国家地理位置的英语表达方法,为进一步学习和表达其他国家和地区的地理位置打下了基础。通过前一课时的学习,学生也对本节课的学习产生了浓厚的兴趣。

2.同时,学生积累了一定的阅读能力,形成了初步的阅读策略。能在有限的时间内获取信息,并具备了一定的处理和应用信息的能力。但仍有部分学生的阅读能力不容乐观,理解英语所表述的信息比较慢。

3.学生的书面表达能力有待提高。

三、三维目标:

知识与技能

Train student’s reading ability.

Learn some useful words and expressions.

Learn some information about European cities.

过程与方法

Make students know more about European cities.

Encourage them to find ways to express location.

情感与价值

Through the study of this period,students will surely have a better understanding of some European cities. As the builders of a future world, it is a must for them to know more about the world we live in.

四、教学重点:

Help students to understand the passage better.

Learn and master some important words and phrases in this period.

五、教学难点:

How to help students improve their reading ability and understand the passage better.

How to master the important language points in this passage.

六、教学方法:

Fast reading to get the general idea of the text.

Intensive reading to understand the passage better.

Discussion to help students understand what they’ve learned better.

Explanation to help students master some language points.

七、教学过程:

Step I Lead-in

Greet the whole class as usual.

Ask them 2 questions:show the two questions on the screen㖞.

Which European city would you most like to visit?

Why do you like it?

T: Which European city would you most like to visit?

S1: I’d like to go to Paris.

T: Why do you like to go there?

S1: Because I want to visit The Eiffel Tower.

T: The Eiffel Tower is the famous symbol of Paris. Anyone else?

S2: XXXXX

T: Today, we will learn a passage called “Great European cities”.

Step II Word Study

1. Learn some new words in the passage that are new to students.

show the words on the screen㖞

Read out the words in the box and have students repeat them after the teacher. Then ask the students to match the definitions individually, and after that, check the answers with the class.

Step III Fast- reading(Listening and scanning)

Share some reading strategies with the class:

Reading strategies: skimming and scanning

We skim a text when we want to get a general idea of what it is about. We look at the titles and headlines, the first or last sentence of paragraphs and the first or last paragraph as well as pictures and charts to guess what the text is about.

When we want to find some information in a text quickly, we scan the text for key word.

2. Ask students to Listen to the whole passage and match the photos with the descriptions according to the information they have heard.

Match the above descriptions with the photos.

Step IV Careful- Reading(Let the students read the passage carefully and finish exercises Ⅰand Ⅱ)

Ask students to read the passage quickly and answer the following question questions.

Ask the students to read through the passage to tell if the following sentences are true or false.

Step VI Writing

Enjoy some pictures about Beijing and then write an article about Beijing .Remember the article you write should include the following information.

3 绿树成荫,每年有许多外国朋友旅游

4 希望北京更加美丽,欢迎到北京观光旅游

1. Finish exercises in workbook on page 68-70

Step VI Summary and Homework

In this period we have learned some vocabulary and we should try to keep them in mind after class. Before we read the text, we learned some reading strategies, which are quite useful in our class. After reading we should know some famous cities and their architecture.
