Teaching Procedure:

Step 1: greetings

Step 2: lead-in Review the definition of the Subjunctive Mood:

虚拟语气: 不是事实, 不太可能发生的情况。 (假句子)

Step 3: Review one form of the Subjunctive Mood: phrases

(1) wish, as if/ though, if only, 现 --- did, 过 --- had done, 将 --- would do

(2) would rather thatXXXXX 现/ 将 --- did, 过 --- had done

(3) It’s (high/ about) time that XXXXX + did / + should + v 注: only if 只有 XXXXX 才

Step 4: exercises

1. a. I wish I were a bird!

b. Sometimes I wish I had never been born.

c. I wish I could be with you for the next three months.

2. a. If only I could pass the college entrance examination.

b. Look at the trouble I am in. If only I had followed your advice.

3. a. You treat the old as if they were your parents.

b. He behaved as if nothing had happened.

4. a. Henry would rather that his girl friend worked in the same department as he does.

b. I'd rather you stayed at home and kept me company this evening.

c. I'd rather you hadn't told me the truth.

Step 5: Another form of Subjunctive Mood: if-clause

discovery:

If I were you, I would try it again.

If I had seen you yesterday, I would have asked you about it.

If I come here next week, I would come to see you.

conclusion:

1) If从句 (could. should, might)

时间 If从句 主句

现在 did/ were would do

过去 had done would have done

将来 did/ were; were to do; should + v (一旦, 万一) would do

conclusion:

1) 含蓄条件句 with, without, but for, or, otherwise 等代替条件句, 表示某种假设的情况。 (分清主从句)

2) 错综时间条件句 (从句与主句发生的时间不一致) (if 过, 主现 ---- If + 过完时, 主句would + v)

3) 虚拟语气的省略 (倒装)

在if条件句中, 省略if, 把were, should, had提到句首。(否定not不提前)

4) 情态动词 + have done 表推测 (should, could, would, needn’t)
