Teaching aims
1. Make the students know typical writing features in news articles.
2. Make the students learn how to read a newspaper article and how to get the important information in it.
3. Encourage the students to express themselves in both written and oral English so that their language learning abilities can be enhanced.

Teaching procedures
Step 1 Lead-in
Ask the students two questions:
1. How often do you read newspaper?
2. How do you select the news you like to read, by looking at its title or the colorful pictures?
Show the students a picture of a newspaper, and ask them which piece of news they would like to choose to read.
Step 2 Features of a news title
What’s the title of this news article?
What features does a news title have?
Step 3 Guessing
Ask the students to look at the title and the pictures, then guess what might have happened.
Step 4 Fast reading
Read the first, the second and the last paragraphs of the newspaper article and finish Part A on Page 2.
What is the article about?

When was Justin last seen?
____________________________________________________.
Who is in charge of the case?
____________________________________________________.
Step 5 Detailed reading
Task 1 Read the news article and find out the information in the mind map.

Step 8 Homework
